Uxbridge, Ontario - A Community With A Heart  - Ride For Africycle

Saturday July 10th Elgin Park Start

For those not already taking part in the 10 day bike ride around Lake Ontario there are three rides that depart from Elgin Park on Sunday July 11th. There is one for evey level of bike enthusiast starting with the 100K fast paced ride through the 50k moderate to the 15 / 25k "casual Ride".

Riders are expected to raise pledges of at least $30.00 for the 100k ride or $25 for the shorter rides. Africycle relies very heavily on the ongoing support, generosity and involvement of Uxbridge residents.

Africycle Quick Facts

- A registered Canadian Charitythat is helping to improve access to bicycles and other low cost forms of transportation for impoverished families in Malawi

- Founded in 2005 after seeing how bikes were used in Malawi

- Vision - equitable access to mobility regardless of wealth, gender or geography

- Donated bikes are collected and shipped to Malawai where locals are employed to refurbish and sell the bikes generating funding for community development (Grace Orphan Care) and shop sustainability.

- Some bikes are are delivered to carefully selected programs that rely on volunteers to deliver programming. these bikes are purchased through their sponsorship program.

Kathy, this is such a great event, if I had a bike and lived in Canada in Ontario I'd be there riding in a heart beat!!
